"Balmung couldn't read, but the dark clouds spelled out a doom as certain as day."
When God sent the Horsemen to put an end to the Crusades, only the kingdom of Brevaria survived. Practitioners of the two High Arts - necromancy and astrology - worked together with the militia to construct a salt-filled trench to ward off the Horsemen's attacks. Now the Arts maintain its integrity and dictate Brevaria's way of life.

But when things don't go as planned, he finds himself outside the safety of the trench with only a foreign astrologer, an an enemy prince, and a cryptic message from his mentor.
To return home, they must travel into the heart of Horsemen territory to uncover an ancient secret that can save Brevaria. But are the Horsemen really mankind's greatest threat?
